New Years Resolution 101
Welcome 2008!
January is here and we have committed to change. In 'New Years Resolution 101' we will show you how to set your goals to be the most effective so that you actually achieve what you want to achieve.
You want to be better, stronger, wiser and of course healthier. It really doesn't matter what your goal is, what does matter is knowing you can accomplish it. We all know someone who sets his or her goal and doesn't even make it through the first day. Is this you?
One of the biggest goals each year is to lose weight. Why is it so difficult to do? With hundreds of products lining the shelves of health food stores we should all look great! If being healthy were easy, we wouldn't have the obesity epidemic we have today. Changing to become healthier and stronger isn't easy. Change isn't easy. We have so many habits good and bad that we do every day that we aren't even aware of.
How many times do you tell yourself you're going to lose 20 lbs this year and end up gaining 10?
You are frustrated, disappointed and even mad at yourself for letting your body get this out of control. I am going to help you get started the right way so in a few months you are already feeling stronger, looking better and are happier and feeling healthier.
New Years Resolution 101 Step 1: Decide to Decide
If you want to lose 20 lbs or even 120 lbs, make the solid decision that this is what you are going to do. No more sitting on the fence. Make a decision. If you want to be around to watch your kids grow up and be an example to them or see your grandchildren in school plays and love life, then you need to make a decision.
If you want to lose the weight,
do it! Once you make that decision the rest will fall into place. I'm not saying it won't be challenging but now you know where you are going. So the next time you are offered that cream filled donut, it will be a 'little' easier turning it down because you have a clear picture of where you want to go and you know that a cream filled donut will not help you get there, so you gladly decline.
New Years Resolution 101 Step 2: Get Help
If you want to get the best results don't be afraid of asking for help. So many times we think we are failures because we can't do it on our own. I am here to tell you, that every successful person in life has had lots of help from many different people.
They do not rely on themselves to succeed and are not afraid of asking for a little advice. Seek out the advice from the fitness experts. Look up the personal trainers in your area. Interview them. Ask questions. If they are good, they will be able to fit a program to match your needs and goals. And that with some hard work will get you results!
New Years Resolution 101 Step 3: Make a Plan
Making a plan for your goals is key to your success. If you want to lose 20 lbs, but don't write it down, you will be less likely to do it. After writing it down, be specific with yourself. Write down when, where, how often and how long you will exercise.
Be specific in planning your meals.
Write down what and when you plan to eat. I know this sounds like a lot, but trust me, the better prepared you are, the more likely you will be to follow through. People will almost always under estimate what they eat in a day.
Writing everything down that passes through your lips if nothing else, will help you see where your calories are coming from, and you will know where you need to make improvements.
New Years Resolution 101 Step 4: Have Fun!
Exercise doesn’t have to be boring. There are thousands of exercises to choose from. If you only do 12-15 exercises on a few different machines, you will definitely loose interest quickly. If you have fun, you will want to exercise. There are so many fun tools like medicine balls; bosu balls and plyometrics that can help you achieve your goals. You will never be bored again.
Another way to keep things exciting is to take it outside. The great outdoors provides a different view and challenge from inside.
As you embark on an exciting New Year, take the time and consider your goals. You can accomplish anything you want to do. If you want to lose 20 lbs, I know you can do it. I have personally coached men and women like you who have had goals to lose weight.
With the proper direction and motivation they saw amazing changes that I knew were possible and they were proud to achieve.
Believe in yourself. Believe you can do it, and you will!
