Alex Lowndes – Competitor and Commodity wharehouser

I would like to introduce you to a mate of mine, Alex Lowndes. A Bodybuilding competitor and all round good guy.

Give me a brief introduction about yourself

My name is Alex Lowndes, I’m 29, work in commodity warehousing, live in Cambridgeshire, lucky enough to be engaged to someone who has a similar outlook and has a lot of patience!

What made you choose this direction?

I’ve been weight lifting since I was about 19, and it’s always been a constant, no matter where I’ve lived or what I’ve been doing with the rest of my life. The gym is an escape from whatever problems you might have in life. Competing was a chance to push myself and compare my work with othersHOW TO GET FIT – ALEX LOWNDES

What are the 5 most important things you can tell someone who is wanting to follow in your footsteps?

  • Don’t underestimate it, its a huge sacrifice.
  • Be willing to put in the hours.
  • Ask yourself if your job / lifestyle will allow you to compete.
  • Make sure your partner is on board from the start.
  • Be willing to soak up information

Do you gym/train everyday?

No. 5 days a week

Do you get asked if you take steroids?

Not really

What is your basic training schedule

Depends what I’m training for. Right now I’m reversing my show prep – tapering down the cardio, and heading towards lifting heavy again. I’m a big fan of GVT.HOW TO GET FIT – ALEX LOWNDES

Do you take any supplements and which ones do you suggest?

I take vegan protein (gave up dairy a few years ago), BCAA’s and creatine when I’m bulking

What is/was your biggest achievement in the gym?

Bench pressing 130kg or deadlifting 180kg

Has the been a time when you felt like you failed? And how did you recover from it?

Yes, I let myself down a bit this weekend, on my back pose and I felt that my abs weren’t thick enough. I’m now planning on working hard to increase the thickness in my abs over the course of a short bulk

Who is your biggest inspiration/hero?

At the moment, probably Ross Edgley

Alex is always keen to inspire people to look at plant based options. “Hopefully the mention of vegan protein will get some people thinking” he says. Tell me people, have you tried Vegan protein? What are your thoughts?
