Before another word is said, let's get some very important information out right away. Although strengthening your abs through various abdominal training is important, it is only one part of the equation. To get awesome abs, you need to follow a plan that includes:

When you have a solid plan that becomes a lifestyle, you will begin to see the fat melt away and your toned, sexy abs show through.

Some common myths about abdominal work are:

  • MYTH: Doing abdominal exercises will remove the fat from your stomach.
FACT: Doing 1000 crunches will not take your love handles away. Read on to learn how to train smart and train effectively.

  • MYTH: You should work your abdominals everyday.
FACT: This is not true. Your abdominals are like any other muscle and need time to heal and recover from a good workout.

Incorrect Form

You can walk into any gym at any time and witness poor form with most abdominal exercises. Your abdominals play a very important role in your posture. If you perform incorrect abdominal exercises over and over, this will have negative short and long term implications. These may include:

  • Neck and back injuries
  • Poor results
  • Headaches
  • Increased aches and pains
  • Slower recovery from exercise
To get great looking abs, you should follow a specific training order. What this means is that you
  1. Work lower abdominals first
  2. Then work obliques
  3. Then finish with upper abs
This order is suggested because the lower abdominals and the obliques require support from the upper abdominals. If you exercise them first, they wouldn't be as effective at providing the needed support.
