Step 1: Eat at home/pack your lunch I want you to think about last week and how many times you grabbed your breakfast coffee and donut or muffin through a drive thru, had lunch with co-workers and was tired after a long day at work and ate out with your spouse at your favourite restaurant? When you eat out, you generally overeat. You snack on the delicious warm bread served before dinner, and probably orderthat same chocolate dessert you saw delivered to the table next to you. The fact is that restaurants want to give you the biggest bang for your buck. Serving sizes are out of control. The plates and bowls uses are gigantic. And when our gigantic plate comes filled, we often feel obligated to clean it up. This will not help you lose weight quickly! The same holds true for eating out at lunch. It will take a bit more preparation on your part, but if your're serious about this, then take the extra 15 minutes and pack a healthy balanced lunch. To ensure your success, commit to eating in for one month and watch how those pounds begin to drop off. Step 2: Watch Portion Sizes This goes hand in hand with the overeating we just discussed. As North Americans (and pretty much everywhere now) we are simply just eating way to much! Portions are double what they used to be. You might be asking yourself just how much can I eat, and still make sure I can lose weight quickly? First, at every meal, you should combine a protein with a carbohydrate. The protein will give you more of a "full" feeling for longer as well as slow down the absorption of the carbohydrate. As a general rule, you want to cut your plate (and a easy way to eat less, is use a smaller plate) in thirds. One third will be your protein. To very quickly eyeball the proper portion of meat, use the palm of you hand. This is the size of meat or any protein you should be eating . The next third is your carb serving. Again a quick eyeball for this is the fist of your hand, which will generally equal to a medium baked potato or 1/2 cup of brown rice. The rest of the plate can be filled with your favourite veggies. Whatever you like, pile them high. Just remember that butter and sauces can add a lot of extra calories. Step 3: Cut the Sugar If you really want to know how to lose weight quickly and keep it off, you need to get rid of the junk. That includes all your favourite breakfast pastries, salty snacks, lunch pop, and the chocolate bars you grab to hold you off until you get home from work. They all must go. I know this sounds really hard and your thinking I really need my treats, but that's just it, you don't need them. Sugar is holding you captive in your own body. It is time to break free once and for all. I know you have the power to do this. Dig deep and pull it out. The benefits will be superior. It will be challenging, you will need determination and will power, but you deserve to finally be free and there is no holding you back. Step 4: Cut Late Night Munchies It has been proven that not eating three hours before bed reduces fat storage throughout the night. Your bodies metabolism slowly starts to wind down preparing for the long fast ahead. If you snack, and lets be honest, we love to snack on all of our favourite comfort foods; popcorn, chips, cookies and chocolate. Because your body is slowing down you will not burn through the extra calories you just consumed, therefore it is more likely to be stored as fat. So, if you go to bed a 10:30pm, finish eating no later than 7:30pm. This might take some effort to become a habit, but believe me, you will love the results!
