The military diet the POTUS is investigating.
The United States military is one of the strongest fighting forces in the world. With 1.3 million active members, they are ranked 2nd in the world due to their size. With a budget of $597 billion, you can see that they value their military highly. A military diet is something that sets these special force personal above most other armies worldwide.
Due to this, you can imagine that it is very important to the President of the United States. The protection of the country lies in the hands of his military personel.
According to Dr. Dominic D’Agostino “The military does have a pretty keen interest in transitioning their guys and understanding the benefits of the ketogenic diet. I know the Defense Science Board put in a recommendation at the level … The President essentially, put in a recommendation to look at ketones and low-carb diets for the military.”
So, what does this mean for us “normal people”. Well, the science behind the Ketogenic diet, or military diet in this case is sound.
What is the military diet.
The ketogenic diet by definition is a diet that elevates blood ketones. An elevation of blood ketones is the first thing to focus on and the military diet is a low carb, high fat ketogenic diet. Then protein is adjusted to fit the individual. For the pediatric population, the protein would be probably young growing kids somewhere around just 10 to 12% maybe up to 15% and that would be adjusted based on the growth of the child.
For the fitness community/military diet, most use what’s called a modified ketogenic diet which would be up to about 20 to 25 percent calories from protein. Which is adequate enough to promote growth and recovery from workouts.
So what does this mean, well if your aim is to be in the best shape of your life. To be as fit as some of the fittest fighting men on earth then the military diet is the diet for you.
